How to Make the Most of Your Stall at the Ōtaki Kids Market

The Ōtaki Kids Market is an incredible opportunity for young entrepreneurs to showcase their talents, sell their creations, and engage with the community. Whether you're selling handmade crafts, baked goods, or unique items, making the most of your stall is key to standing out and maximizing sales.

Here’s a guide to making the most of your 1m x 1m stall space and having a successful market day!

Plan Your Layout

With a 1m x 1m stall, every bit of space counts. Plan your layout ahead of time to ensure it’s both functional and attractive.

  • Use Vertical Space: Use boxes or mini shelves to create levels. This maximizes space and makes it easier for customers to see all your products.

  • Table Size: Choose a compact table that fits within the space but still provides enough surface for your display. A small folding table works well. Remember you stall space is 1m x 1m

  • Display Board: A lightweight pegboard or corkboard works well on your stall to hang items like jewelry, cards, or art prints.

  • Tablecloth: get a tablecloth or covering which covers the front of your stall not only does this look good, but that way you can put storage or boxes underneath your table.

  • Under the Table: Use storage bins or baskets that fit under your table for extra stock or supplies.

  • Compact Packaging: Pack items in stackable boxes to keep everything organized and easy to access.

  • Use Color: Bright, cheerful tablecloths and signs can help your stall stand out.

  • Arrange Neatly: Keep your products organized and tidy. Group similar items together and avoid clutter.

  • Add Personal Touches: Use small chalkboards or printed signs to add prices and product descriptions. A handwritten sign with your name or brand adds a friendly, personal touch.

TOP TIP: Say hello to your neighbours and be sure to work together to help maximize your space. Be sure not to encroach out of your dedicated space.

YOUR PRODUCT - no changes please

Once you have registered, please don't change your product. This can have an impact on Kids Market advertising as well as effecting the site map of the market. Depending on your product, depends on where we place you. Changing your product, can result in the next to another stall selling the same or similar product.

Setting Up on the Day

Check Facebook the night before to find you stall space. All stalls are numbered. To make it easy to set up your stall on the day, please stop at the dedicated loading zone (or you can park at the train station and carry your items). Using the loading zone, please unpack your items and move your car as soon as possible to allow the next person to unload.

We will have three helpful young people in hi-vis who will be available to help you carry you stock and gear to your stall site. Once you have unloaded, please check in at reception.

Showcase Your Best Items

Put your most eye-catching or popular items in prime spots to draw attention.

  • Front and Center: Place bestsellers or new products at the front of your stall where they’re easy to spot.

  • Interactive Displays: If possible, let customers try or touch your products (e.g., sample a baked good or test a candle scent).

Engage with Customers

A friendly smile and a welcoming attitude can make all the difference!

  • Greet Everyone: Say hello to customers as they pass by to encourage them to stop.

  • Share Your Story: Tell people about your products and what inspired you to create them.

  • Be Ready to Answer Questions: Know your products well and be prepared to explain materials, processes, or pricing.

Promote Your Stall

Get the word out to draw more visitors to your stall.

  • Use Social Media: Share photos of your products and invite friends and family to the market.

  • Offer Discounts: Create a small promotion, like “Buy 2, Get 1 Free,” to encourage larger purchases.

  • Hand Out Business Cards: If you have a brand or social media page, give customers a way to follow up with you after the market.

Prepare for the Day

Being well-prepared will help the day go smoothly.

  • Pack Early: Pack your items, supplies, and any decorations the night before.

  • Bring Change: Have plenty of small bills and coins for cash transactions.

  • Stay Hydrated and Snack: It’s a long day—bring water and snacks to keep your energy up!

Learn and Adapt

After the market, reflect on what worked well and what could be improved.

  • Take Notes: Which products sold best? What display attracted the most attention?

  • Ask for Feedback: Talk to customers or other stallholders for tips and ideas.

  • Experiment Next Time: Try new arrangements or products at your next market.

TOP TIP: please ensure your adult knows where the loading and unloading zones are!

Please ensure you unload all your items and move your car before setting up your stall.
