Best Kids Stall Competition

The highlight of the market was the Best Kids Stall award, judged by Ōtaki Ward Councillor Shelly Warwick. Ten-year-old Aurora from Porirua wowed the judges with her engaging stall and was crowned the winner. The runners-up were sisters Erin (10) and Penelope (7) from Paraparaumu (handmade dog treats), and eleven-year-old Lana from Levin (With Halloween themed goodies), who also displayed outstanding entrepreneurial spirit.

Sustainable Stalls Competition

In a new competition, the Kapiti Coast District Council's Waste Minimisation Team judged two new sustainability-focused awards. The Best Sustainable Product award was given to sisters Lilliana (9) and Emila (5) from Te Horo (who sold handcut flowers), while the runner-up was thirteen-year-old Zaian from Tawa for his stall, Terrific Terrariums. The Best Sustainable Packaging award was won by eleven-year-old Harper from Tawa, (using Glass Jars to sell brownie mix) with thirteen-year-old TJ from Levin recognized as runner-up for his environmentally conscious packaging solutions (Hand knitted bags from his grandma).

Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, local band The Pretty Boys performed live music, delighting market-goers throughout the day. Attendees were also treated to Activity Starter Packs generously provided by ASB, helping to further encourage the entrepreneurial spirit among the young participants.

Behind the scenes, the market benefited from the support of three dedicated students from Ōtaki College’s Manakura GPS program, who played an integral role in ensuring the smooth running of the event.

"We are thrilled by the incredible turnout and the immense talent on display," said Chrissy Anderson, Otaki Market General Manager "These young entrepreneurs are the future of our community, and we are proud to provide them with a platform to grow, learn, and shine."
