The Ōtaki Christmas Market, held Sunday 22 December, delivered festive joy to the community. With record-breaking attendance, vibrant stalls, and a heartwarming sense of togetherness, the market has solidified its place as a highlight of the region’s holiday season.
Hundreds of visitors gathered at the Ōtaki Market grounds, enjoying a wide array of artisan products, handmade gifts, delicious food, and live entertainment. Highlights included festive handmade toys, seasonal baked goods, and unique crafts that made for perfect Christmas gifts.
Father Christmas
The event featured a magical lineup of activities for the whole family. Santa Claus made a special appearance, escorted by the Otaki Volunteer Fire Brigade, delighting children with photos and special packets of reindeer mix for kids (and big Kids) to leave out on Christmas eve. And some very well-behaved dogs!
Teddy Bear Competition
A highlight of the Ōtaki Christmas Market was the Teddy Bear Competition, generously sponsored by a member of the Ōtaki Women’s Community Club (OWCC). Four lucky youngsters had the chance to win an adorable teddy bear.
"The Ōtaki Christmas Market represents the best of our community—creativity, collaboration, and holiday spirit"
Chrissy Anderson, Market General Manager. "This year’s turnout exceeded all expectations, and the positive feedback from stallholders and attendees has been overwhelming. It’s a true testament to the vibrancy of our town and the talent of our local businesses."
There was even a visit from one of Santa's reindeer, with kids being able to interact and get photographs. Thanks to our pals from Kuku Creative for bringing him to the market.
This year’s market also showcased the strong community partnerships with local producers, artisans, creators and makers taking part. The proceeds from the market go to local charity, The Otaki Women's Community Club to be given right back to the community.
As the market team reflects on this year’s success, planning is already underway for 2025. With its growing reputation as a must-visit festive destination, the Ōtaki Christmas Market is set to continue spreading joy and supporting local businesses in the years to come.
